Approximately 20% of the Earth is Tundra which includes Alpine, Antarctic and Artic regions. Its characteristics are generally a very cold climate with a low biodiversity. They are composed of simple plant life and receive energy and nutrients from decomposed organic material. Tundra has a restriction of drainage and a small season of growth and reproduction. There is a layer of permafrost underneath the ground which is frozen ground.
